Need for Inuit Film and Video Archives urgent

In recognition of World  Day for Audiovisual Heritage on October 27, long-time IBC Executive Director, Debbie Brisebois, will present on the proposed Inuit Film and Video Archives at the Pan-Canadian Documentary Heritage Forum in Ottawa, November 6, 2012.

The Archives is part of the Nunavut Media Arts Centre to be built in Iqaluit by 2015. Preserving the 30 years of Inuit film and video productions, an unprecedented collection in Canada and perhaps around the world of Inuit social, political and cultural history, is urgent. The collection is currently at risk, spread out in facilities that cannot meet the necessary archiving standards for preservation. The clock is ticking!

Please join us in celebrating World  Day for Audiovisual Heritage on October 27 and watch the video featuring Marcel Caya, Chair of the Canadian ad hoc Committee for Memory of the World, Canadian Commission for UNESCO. Mr. Caya talks about audiovisual heritage and the urgency of preserving it.
